8 U-Pick Tulip Farms near Raleigh: Pick Your Own Spring Bunches!

Spring is around the corner, and it’s time to start filling our homes with vases of colorful tulips, the most vibrant of Spring flowers. You don’t need to import them from Holland, however, as we have a handful of U-Pick Tulip Farms near Raleigh where you can pull out your secateurs and cut your own bunch.

We love the idea of u-pick farms – there is something so satisfying about bringing home something that was in the Earth earlier that day. We always make time to pick our own sunflowers, strawberries, and pumpkins in the Fall, and for the Spring bloom season, it’s tulips we’ve got our eyes on this year.

If you’re looking to pick your own tulips near Raleigh, but are not sure where to go, here are the u-pick farms within a 1.5-hour drive that have fields of fresh spring flowers to pick. TIPS: take a vase or bottle of water to put them in, or wet towels to wrap the stems in, as they last a bit longer that way. If you change the water every few days, they can last over a week. The best time to pick tulips is from mid-March to early April, though some farms have picking season open into May.

Porter Farms & Nursery, Willow Springs

• Distance from Raleigh: 24 min (15.0 miles) via Old Stage Road
• Opening weekend: March 14 & 15 – Reach out to farm for information as it’s not on their website or – minimal on Facebook

This farm south of Raleigh offers locally grown fruits and vegetables. They have strawberry picking in the spring, pumpkin patches in the fall, and ice cream all summer long. A Facebook follower alerted us that they also have tulip picking. Information is lacking on their website and Facebook – but says its currently open for picking.

Collin’s Produce and Flower Farm, Wilson

• Distance from Raleigh: 45 min (51.0 miles) via US-264 E
• Opening weekend: Select days between March 27th and April 4th

Collins Produce & Flower Farm is probably your best bet for finding fresh tulips near Raleigh this year. They will be hosting a U‑Pick Tulip event on five days between the 27th of March and 4th April 2026, where there are more than 30,000 tulips ready to be picked. Walk the fields, pick your favorite flowers, and pick stems for $2 per stem. There will be picking baskets provided, and there will be staff on hand to help you wrap your tulips in floral paper. They take cash, cards, and Venmo.

Eno River Farm, Hillsborough

Eno River Farm is closer to Raleigh, but they have a limited supply of tulips and daffodils available for U-Picking. All flowers are priced at $2 per stem, and there’s no appointment necessary – just turn up and get ready to pick. Eno River Farm is also well known for its strawberry ice cream, using strawberries grown on the farm, so if the weather allows it, or the mood strikes, make sure to grab a scoop! Kids will love exploring the giant trolls and the playground.

Firefly Farm, Hillsborough 

• Distance from Raleigh: 50 min (42.5 miles) via I-40 E
• Opening weekend: Opening May 2026.  Tulip U-pick dates will be formally announced based on availability in March/April

While in Hillsborough, head over to Firefly Farm to see what their U-Pick tulips are looking like. While U-Picking is self-service, you are required to buy a ticket to visit the farm. You are required to check in, and then you are given a basket to carry flowers in. Tickets cost $25 each, but you can share this ticket with your group; it’s not priced per person. While you’re choosing your flowers, don’t forget to say hello to the farm animals. There are chickens, horses, miniature donkeys, and goats, as well as a lovely pond walk.  You can also bring a picnic and hang out there for a while.

Blueberry Hill U-Pick, Sanford

This family-owned farm in Sanford has a wonderfully aesthetic tulip field each year, with rows and rows of tulips, divided up into colors so you can pick the right color and variety you want. In fact, their tulips are so well displayed that this is one of the best farms to go to if you are looking for a tulip backdrop for photography. What makes this farm unique is that they allow you to pick even when they are closed based on an honor system. Simply head to the porch, pick up a box and some shears, and once you’re done picking, you can scan a QR code to pay for your field entry fee ($5) and your stems ($2 each), and take one of their buckets to help you transport them home.

Freedom House Farm, Greensboro

• Distance from Raleigh: 1 hr 30 min (93.1 miles) via I-40
• Opening weekend: late March, TBC

When picking tulips this year, why not pick them with a purpose? All proceeds made at Freedom House Farm support the Christ-centered recovery program at Freedom House, which is a local organization that was created to help mothers and their children rebuild their lives, many of whom have been impacted by addiction.

They are most well known for the pick-your-own strawberry field, but there is also a small tulip field where you can either cut them or take them with the bulb. The cost is priced per stem. You will find the tulips in the field just behind the farmstand, all the way to the left. While you’re there, why not try a hot coffee from The Freedom House Farm Coffee Trailer?

Raising Grayce Farm, Greenville

• Opening weekend: TBC March/April

Raising Grayce Farm offers a fun day out where you can pick spring flowers such as tulips, daffodils, sunflowers, and more. They provide the shears, crates/buckets, and water, and you bring your keenest flower-hunting eyes. The 16-acre farm has a variety of flower beds, with many different colors and varieties to choose from. There is usually a designated area for cutting, so the flowers don’t get overpicked. They also allow you to take tulips with the bulbs still on to plant at home.

They also have a prep table where you can cut each stem to the desired length, and there are plastic bags provided for transporting tulips home (which you’ll need, this is a 1.5-hour drive from Raleigh). Be sure to say hello to their cattle when visiting!

Dewberry Farm, Kernersville

• Distance from Raleigh: 1 hr 35 min (96.8 miles) via I-40 E
• Opening weekend: March 25th until April 10th, 2026

Arguably the best to last, well, certainly the most famous tulip farm in North Carolina. Dewberry Farm is home to the largest U-Pick tulip field in the state, and it’s just a 1.5 hour’s drive from Raleigh!

Ever since they hosted their first U-Pick season in 2018, they have planted more and more tulip bulbs each year to meet the growing demand. In 2018, they planted 40,000 bulbs, and by 2024, that number grew to 140,000 tulips. For 2026, they have planted 168,000 tulips AND have an additional 8,000 in crates. Choose from 55 varieties, and come home with the most beautiful bunch. As it’s the biggest tulip farm in the state, you must pre-purchase tickets ($15 for adults, $5 for children over 2) as this is a popular venue.

Tickets allow you 2 hours of picking time, but after your picking time is up, you can stay on the farm to hang out. You get three tulips with your adult ticket, and every other tulip is priced at $1.50 per stem. You cannot take tulips with the bulbs from the field, but you can buy tulips with the bulbs from a crate for $2.

Note: You will need to bring your own clippers and box to keep your tulips in on the way home.

While not available for picking, the tulips at Duke Gardens in Durham when in bloom are spectacular. They’re usually in bloom between March and May, with April often being peak tulip season. However, it is up to Mother Nature so check with the gardens!
