It’s only a 25-minute drive from the Raleigh downtown area and has a prime Southwest Raleigh location!
Don’t just take my word for it, in 2015 Money Magazine named Apex as the top place to live in the USA, and in my mind has only improved since then!
About Apex?
Established in 1873, Apex, North Carolina is currently celebrating its 150th birthday. The town is centered around the charming and historic downtown area that is recognized by the National Register of Historic Places.
What is Apex NC known for? It is an historic railroad town, and it got its name from a location at the highest point on the old Chatham Railroad and is the reason for its slogan “the peak of good living.”
Does Apex NC have a downtown? Absolutely, and I believe the highlight of the town is the historic downtown area.
Park your car and explore on foot. Wander up and down the quaint and pedestrian-friendly Salem Street and you will discover colorful buildings, beautifully restored specialty stores, and terrific locally owned restaurants, cafes, bars and taprooms. Just strolling around downtown Apex is a timeless experience.
Regarding schools, Apex is served by the highly regarded Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) that includes 2 high schools, 4 middle schools, and 5 elementary schools. There are also 4 private schools.
Where is Apex, North Carolina?
Apex is a town in Wake County, North Carolina. It is located 14-miles Southwest of downtown Raleigh with direct highway access via US-1.
It is conveniently located near the I-540 which connects you to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in approximately 20 minutes, and to Research Triangle Park (RTP), also in approximately 20-minutes.

Immediate neighboring towns include Cary to the north and northeast, Holly Springs to the south, and of course Raleigh to the east and northeast.
As you can see, Apex is in one of the prime locations in Wake County, and while traffic can be a little challenging during peak rush hour, you’re never too far away from the best that the Triangle area has to offer.

Bella Casa Neighborhood
Bella Casa is one of the best Apex neighborhoods and one of the most sought after. This is a family-friendly community consisting of over 1,000 homes located just 4-miles west of downtown Apex and 2.5 miles from I-540.

Here you’ll find younger trees and nice landscaping, plus surrounding forest and wooded areas. And Bella Casa is adjacent to Seymour Athletic Fields consisting of soccer fields, tennis courts and a kid’s playground.
Apex Nature Park is close by and home to a natural amphitheater, a short nature trail, dog park and disc golf. And the main shopping center of Beaver Creek Crossings is only 7-minutes’ drive away.

Haddon Hall Neighborhood
Haddon Hall is one of the well-established Apex neighborhoods and community of 800 single family homes, townhomes, and condominiums. It is located only 1.7 miles Northwest of downtown Apex.

Amenities include a pool (which is staffed by certified lifeguards during the busiest pool hours), a playground for kids up to 12 years old, two lighted tennis courts, and a clubhouse which is used for community meetings, functions and social events.
Here you’ll find tree lined streets, walking trails that wind through wooded areas of Haddon Hall which are maintained by the Town of Apex, and a quiet pond that’s popular for walking, jogging, biking, or fishing.
You’re only 3-minutes’ drive from the Beaver Creek Crossings shopping mall, and you have close access to I-64, I-540 and major area employers.

Sweetwater Neighborhood
Sweetwater is one of the newer planned communities conveniently located right off Hwy 64 and I-540 with good access to Apex and western Wake County. There is a mixture of single-family homes and townhomes of varying sizes and prices to choose from.

- Downtown Raleigh: 30 minutes
- Research Triangle Park (RTP): 20 minutes

Amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center, an amazing pool, playground and BBQ area, plus 10 small parks and 2 dog parks.
Property sizes range from around 1,900 square feet to over 4,700 square feet, with prices from the $500s to over $1.2 million. You will find smaller lots here, but a cool variety of townhomes inspired by Charleston, Savannah, Beaufort, and Jamestown, plus larger single-family homes and lots towards the back of the community.
Beaver Creek Crossings shopping area is only a 5-minute drive away. And there’s a 45-acre commercial and entertainment complex on site including shopping, dining, and entertainment coming soon!

Abbington (and Stratford) Neighborhoods
Abbington is a custom-built home subdivision with over 400 homes in the western part of Apex. Located right off I-64 and I-540, it’s just a 4-mile drive west of downtown Apex and minutes from Beaver Creek Crossings, so everything is at your fingertips.

There are two sections here, Abbington and Stratford at Abbington. The area is built out with single-family homes and private community boasts amenities which include a competition-sized swimming pool, two tennis courts, and a children’s playground.
Abbington offers custom-built homes in a wide variety of sizes and prices, with square footage ranging from 2,200 sqft up to 5,500 sqft, and home prices from the $700s and up. Homes were built in two stages from the late 90’s until about 2012.
