Sporting season is one we always look forward to, and we’re blessed to have some incredible college sports teams here in Raleigh. The NC State’s beloved Wolfpack, whether it be State Football, basketball, or other collegiate sports are always competitive. And if you don’t have gameday tickets, the next best thing is cheering them on from one of the NC State bars.

While there’s no denying a game-day experience at the stadium is unmatched, if you can’t see the Wolfpack play live, the NC State bars are the next best thing. So, when you’re ready to cheer on the Pack surrounded by other Pack fans, head to one of these bars below!

The Players Retreat

Kicking off our list is a true NC State bar and Raleigh institution: The Players Retreat, affectionately known as the PR to the locals. This classic sports bar has been a staple for over 70 years, drawing in students, alumni, and sports aficionados alike. It’s where we watched State beat Duke in the Sweet Sixteen during their legendary Final 4 run – watch our video. Nestled of few steps away from NC State University so you can celebrate at the Belltower when they light it red, the PR exudes old-school charm with its cozy booths, sidewalk tables, and abundance of TV screens broadcasting the games.

Amedeo’s Italian Restaurant

Just 2-miles for the belltower, Amedeo’s Italian Restaurant boasts the largest display of NC State sports memorabilia in Raleigh which is like a walk down memory lane of Wolfpack history. Founded by Amedeo (Dick) DeAngelis, a former NC State football player whose love for the game and great food inspired what has become a beloved Wolfpack gathering spot near campus.

Here you’ll find students, staff, alumni, coaches and NC State fans all eating among themselves. In fact, sitting at the table next to us was Wes Moore, head coach of the women’s basketball team! Since 1963, they’ve been serving up authentic Italian flavors in a casual restaurant and pizzeria vibe, with the excitement of a sports-bar feel.

With its casual, pizzeria-style atmosphere, Amedeo’s exudes the quintessential sports bar vibe, complete with games on TV and Wolfpack fans sharing beers and lively conversation. It’s a fun spot to immerse yourself in the vibrant student life of Raleigh. From their menu, we highlihj recommend:

Established in 1974, this iconic tavern stands as one of Raleigh’s cherished landmarks, particularly adored by NC State students and alumni for its prime location directly across from campus, offering picturesque balcony views overlooking the university.

The charm and old-school ambiance hold a special place in the hearts of students and Raleigh locals.
