New to Hillsborough St this year is the quirky Asian lifestyle store, Ebisu Life. In here you’ll find Japanese and Asian snacks, toys, beauty products, colorful stationary, quirky household items, and more. In keeping with the fun, playful vibe of the store, they also have EBISU Christmas Mystery Boxes with items over its $29.99 price tag + a 1 in 20 chance to find a Labubu inside. And I mean come on, who doesn’t want Hello Kitty toilet paper in their Christmas stocking?
Man Mur Shoe Shop
You may be wondering why we’re recommending a shoe repair store for your holiday shopping on Hillsborough St. Well, who doesn’t have a beloved holey boot that could do with some professional restoration?
HOWEVER, this family-run business since 1942 also has some of your favorite shoe brands for sale (brand new that is). Customers rave about their selection of Birkenstock, Dansko, Clark, Blundstones, Red Wing, Olukai, and many more. I am pretty sure Birkenstocks are on my Christmas list!

Another thing to love about this small business on Hillsborough St, is that it’s Needlepoint’s original store! They now also have a flagship store in Charleston. Raleigh is elevating the crafting world, one stitch at a time!
While here enjoy the brightly flower mural on the parking lot facing wall of Needlepoint – it’s one of my favorites. Prismatic Oasis celebrates flora and fauna inspired by embroidery traditions from around the world. Hidden within the design are special local nods—look for the wolf as a tribute to NC State University and the wings as a nod to Meredith College.
2. For Bookworms, Music Lovers, & NC State Fans
Wolfpack Outfitters: NC State Bookstore
A goldmine for Wolfpack gear, books, gifts, and holiday merch is the official Wolfpack Outfitters located in Talley Student Union on NC State campus. Readers Corner
A beloved local institution and one of the oldest surviving used bookstores in Raleigh. This used bookstore is a wonderland for readers with wide-ranging tastes—and you’ll often find rare gems. All the books I saw in here were in excellent condition and they have books that any reader will love from kids to adults and classic stories to non-fiction interests. Books make the best gifts because they feel personal without being complicated. Reader’s Corner also carries some CDs and vinyl’s, mostly jazz and classical.
Nice Price Books & Records
It wouldn’t be holiday shopping in Raleigh for our family if we didn’t stop into Nice Price Books & Records. It has the quirkiest collection of vinyls in the Raleigh area. All music styles are catered to and it’s probable you’ll find a rare LP gem. They also have a large collection of used fiction and non-fiction books.
