If there’s one thing we love most about Raleigh’s North Hills, it’s how effortlessly it brings people together. With a year-round calendar of community events, walkable districts perfect for groups, and restaurants and bars that welcome everything from casual hangouts to private celebrations, North Hills makes gathering easy and fun.

Throughout the year, you’ll find experiences designed to gather the community and spark connection. We’ve been to all of these events and can verify it draws in groups of friends:

• Spring Beach Music Series – Grab your friends, kick off your shoes, and dance to live beach music under the Carolina sky. We love how these draws in friends of all ages and the enthusiastic dancers up the front revving up the vibrancy. It’s such a fun way to experience Spring in North Hills!
• Summer Sidewalk Sale Series – A casual and fun way to shop, wander, and score deals while enjoying the buzz of summer in North Hills. Perfect for friends to plan a brunch or lunch stop in between.
• Midtown Music Fest (Fall) – A lively outdoor concert series perfect for soaking in the crisp fall air while enjoying live tunes with your crew. It’s one of the top things to do in the Fall in North Hills.
• Wellness Wednesdays (Spring & Fall) – Free fitness classes on the lawn attract like-minded yogis, bootcampers, and anyone who loves moving together in community. Friends who exercise together hit target goals together.

• Annual Wine Walk – Sip, stroll, and shop for a good cause while bonding with friends over tastings while you shop at your favorite North Hills retailers. We had a lot of fun when we did this!
• Tree Lighting Festival & Holiday Markets – A beloved Raleigh tradition where families, neighbors, and friends gather to celebrate the magic of the season. This is such a heartwarming event with Santa visits, holiday markets, live music in the streets, and the restaurants filled with happy holiday makers. It has a magical Christmas vibe.

No matter the season, North Hills makes it easy to find a reason to gather—whether you’re raising a glass, breaking a sweat, or simply celebrating life’s everyday joys.

Feast Together: Group-Friendly Dining

Food has a way of bringing people closer, and North Hills offers plenty of spots designed for gathering. Any restaurant in North Hills will be perfect for friends on any night of the week—especially for smaller groups (just be sure to reserve in advance).

We’ve dug deep to highlight restaurants that shine for special friend gatherings, larger groups, and even full buyouts for those really big celebrations.

• Gather with Grace: New to Makers Alley in North Hills is Good Graces, intentionally designed to be a place to gather, connect, and feel at home. Chat over coffee and breakfast by day, then enjoy small bites and cocktails by night. They also feature a market with local goods and a cozy patio.
• Craft Beer and Bites at Yard House: With 100+ beers on tap, oversized booths, and a menu built for variety, Yard House is an easy spot for groups who want something for everyone. It’s the place in North Hills for friends who love to watch sports together, year-round. They also cater to large group dining and corporate events with a group dining menu.
• Patio Parties in North Hills: Friends need fresh air and open spaces to chatter nonstop and laugh. North Hills has several patios to suit your gathering style:
  • Chuy’s – Tex-Mex, margaritas, and casual fun in the warm sun. Its patio overlooking Midtown Common is perfect for events.
  • Bartaco – Small but vibrant, Bartaco has some of my favorite margaritas in Raleigh and tacos to suit all eaters. Almost everything on the menu is gluten free, too.
  • Rosewater Kitchen & Bar – Has (arguably) the prettiest patio in North Hills, with a Mediterranean menu built for sharing.
  • Restoration Hardware Rooftop Restaurant – Rivaling Rosewater for most beautiful patio, this upscale spot is ideal for glamorous friend gatherings.
  • Village Tavern – A lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the new Main District’s common area, which is often lively during events.

• Private Dining & Wining: Apart from enjoying meal with friends in the dining room of your favorite North Hills restaurants, there are also the following private dining experiences.
  • We’ve personally enjoyed the private dining room at Cucciolo Terrazza with about 10 friends. The intimate space let us laugh a little louder behind closed doors without disturbing other diners. The special three-course menu was excellent, and the dedicated service made the night feel seamless. Smaller groups (fewer than 8) can also enjoy the Wine Room.
  • Coquette Brasserie – Seats up to 50 guests in a fully private dining room, perfect for rehearsal dinners, intimate gatherings, and meetings. here is our review of Coquette
  • Vivace – Offers a private event space for up to 18 people, ideal for smaller celebrations.
  • Capital Grille – Features an elegant private room with dedicated staff and a customized menu paired with world-class wines.
  • STIR – An industrial-chic private dining room (up to 25 guests) with a garage door that opens to the patio. Great for family gatherings or business events.
  • Rosewater Kitchen & Bar – Their Garden Room hosts 20–50 guests, with customizable menus. Fingers crossed the grilled branzino makes yours!
  • Vita Vite – A popular local wine bar with a semi-private mezzanine for up to 60 friends, complete with a 360-degree bar, cozy seating, and an indoor/outdoor vibe overlooking Midtown Park.
  • True Food Kitchen – Offers private and group dining, with an organic, seed-oil-free menu that includes plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian options. Their cocktails, made with fresh-pressed juices, are some of the best in Raleigh.

Do Something Together: Fun Beyond the Table

North Hills isn’t just about dining and drinking; it’s a playground for shared group experiences with friends (or family):

• Ky’s Kandles – Craft your own custom candle while sipping wine (or non-alcoholic options). My daughters and I did this with my sister visiting from Australia. It was a fun, creative, bonding experience I think of every time I burn my signature scent in my office. Ky is a passionate host who puts your heart into creating a meaningful experience.
• Foxcroft Wine Co. – Nothing cements friendship more than a quality bottle of wine and charcuterie board. And a warm day on the patio. Grab your passionate Oenophile friends for global wine tasting at our favorite newest addition to North Hills. Each month they have themed $5 tastings for a casual gathering. Uplevel with one of multi-course wine dinner that explore different wine regions of the world. We explored Columbia River Valley in Washington State at one of their excellent wine dinners.
• Giorgios Italian Wine Dinners: One of our favorite Italian restaurants in Raleigh, Giorgios Pizza Bar will often have Italian wine dinner nights on their patio. Mingling is encouraged as is enjoying a 5-course meal paired with good Italian wine!
• Go shopping as a group sport! North Hills has big brands, local boutiques, and this creative hub supporting emerging artisans at Makers Alley (a Zen-liek gathering space). Teens and young adults especially love its safe, walkable vibe. For brides, Vow’d Weddings, with beautifully crafted wedding dresses and Trellis, a gorgeous floral shop, are perfect for showers and celebrations.
• Kings Dining & Entertainment – Bowling, billiards, arcade games, food, and drinks all under one roof. Great for private parties or Sunday Football with $1 wings and $30 Bud Light towers.
• Sur La Table – Book a group cooking class and learn new skills together. Options range from Steak Night to Pasta Party. Private classes are also available for bachelorettes, showers, family bonding, or team building.

Cozy Catch-Ups: Coffee & Cocktails

Not every get-together needs to be a grand affair. Sometimes it’s about carving out a little pocket of time to reconnect.

• Jubala Coffee – Local favorite for lattes, biscuits, and pastries. Perfect for casual meetups, business chats, or bringing out-of-town guests. We visit frequently for meetings, to meet with friends, or with our out-of-Raleigh visitors – it’s always packed with other friends gathering. (Also, Good Graces above may be a new coffee spot.) Jubala has long been one of our favorite coffee shops in Raleigh.
• Tifa Chocolate, Gelato & Gelato – New to North Hills this October is this gelato, chocolate and coffee spot perfect for gathering with its cozy upstairs loft. Aussie coffee snobs like us are hard to impress, but Tifa had us grinning ear to ear with their nailing of the flat white. Their delicious chocolate truffles and creamy gelato will ensure all in your gathering will also be grinning!
• Level7 Rooftop Bar at the AC Hotel – Sweeping views, handcrafted cocktails, and sophisticated sunset vibes. For another scenic drink with Beverly Hill vibes, head to the Restoration Hardware Rooftop Restaurant.
• Bonefish Grill – $7 Social Hour cocktails daily from 4 PM. They also host special dinners like their (sold-out!) bourbon cocktail pairing—a fun idea for whiskey-loving friends.
• Firebirds Wood Fired Grill – Patio or FIREBAR happy hour from 2–6 PM, Monday through Friday, plus all-day drink specials on Wednesdays.
• Vita Vite – Cozy ambiance, unique wines, and small bites make it a favorite for girlfriend catch-ups. Insider tip: sit on the patio during Midtown Park live music for elevated views.
• Leo’s Social – At the bottom of the Renaissance Hotel invites you to gather on Thursday nights bring $8 martinis and live music (Tunes + Tinis) starting at 6 PM. Get there earlier (3–6 PM) for Social Hour with $3 off appetizers and pizzas.
