We’ve had several date nights in North Hills and know just what you need to spice up your night and do something memorable.

Let me start by saying a couple’s date experience does not always have to revolve around dinner, drinking, or a night out on the town. Caroline and I believe the best date nights can be those where you simply spend time together, learn together, adventure together, and have loads of fun, day or night. 1. Get a Couples Massage at Woodhouse Spa

If you’re looking for date ideas that involve some pampering and relaxation, look no further than the Woodhouse Spa.  Our experience started with a complimentary pre-massage drink in the quiet room followed by the Body Balance Massage for two (their take on a Swedish massage) and it was just what we needed as busy parents for everyday luxury and pampering.

Foxcroft Food & Wine is a longtime favorite of ours for its effortless, come-as-you-are vibe. You’re surrounded by fully stocked wine shelves—many bottles available to take home—featuring high-quality selections from wine regions around the world. The food is elevated but approachable, making it just as perfect for a wine-paired brunch or lunch as it is for a casual date.

They offer free wine tastings on Monday nights and host unique wine dinners that make for an especially memorable date night. One of our favorites was a Columbia River Valley wine dinner—one of our absolute favorite wine regions in the U.S., and a trip Craig and I still talk about.

If wine is your love language, North Hills has a few standout spots where the wine is the date. Vita Vite remains one of our favorite places for a relaxed wine date with a view. Overlooking Midtown Park, it’s ideal for lingering over a glass while enjoying conversation—especially when something’s happening in the park and you want to soak up the atmosphere without being in the middle of it. It’s become our go-to stop during the Spring Beach Music series.

Recently opened, Sixty Vines is where wine takes center stage in a fun, modern way. With sixty wines on tap, the focus is on sustainability and freshness—plus it often makes enjoying great wine a little easier on the wallet. 3. Enjoy Drinks with a View

Level7, perched atop the AC Hotel, is one of Raleigh’s top rooftop bars. With its chic terrace, striking mural, and polished vibe, it’s ideal for craft cocktails, wine, small-batch brews, and light bites. We’ve enjoyed drinks here during a North Hills staycation, especially at sunset, when golden hour light reflects beautifully off the surrounding buildings.

Sometimes all you need is a quiet afternoon with a view, a great wine or cocktail, and easy conversation with your partner—or the one you’re still getting to know. North Hills now has several bars where the views are part of the experience. As mentioned above, Vita Vite is one of our favorites, with views overlooking Midtown Park. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a drink when something’s happening in the park, but you don’t want to be in the middle of the crowd. We often stop in during the Spring Beach Music series—it’s lively without feeling overwhelming.

For a touch of Beverly Hills glamour, head to the new Restoration Hardware rooftop restaurant and terrace. The expansive views over the Main District are especially stunning at sunset, and it’s a prime spot for people-watching—particularly when an event is happening in North Hills.

We’re also counting down to the opening of the Sixty Vines rooftop, expected later this month or in early March. Classy but casual, it promises city-style views, a sustainability-focused wine program, and—of course—sixty wines on tap. A future date-night favorite in the making. I’m sure it will make our favorite rooftop bars in Raleigh list. It made our list of must-try restaurants for this year in Raleigh.

4. Admire artwork in Artsource Fine Art & Framing

For those who appreciate art, head to Art Source Fine Art and take in the fantastic local art on display.  Founded in 1990, ArtSource is one of the premiere fine art galleries in North Carolina and features the works of over 60 artists from the Southeast and beyond. It’s home to more than 2,000 works of fine art and has been voted “Best Place To Purchase Art” for eight years in a row by the readers of Metro Magazine.

We enjoyed taking in all the artwork as a couple and our appreciation for quality art continues to grow. Check out their events page as they host between 3-4 major exhibitions per year, plus they host artist workshops and demonstrations, wine-tastings, exhibition receptions, corporate functions, private parties, and fund-raising events. 6. Romantic Dinner Dates in North Hills

When the goal is connection, ambiance matters just as much as what’s on the plate. These North Hills restaurants set the scene for a truly romantic dinner—whether that means candlelight and elegance or a shared love of global flavors. Tamasha Indian is hands-down one of the most romantic restaurants in Raleigh—and one of the most beautiful in the country. Award-winning and recognized by both James Beard and Michelin, the space alone is reason enough to book a table. Add in elevated Indian cuisine layered with spice, depth, and artistry, and you have a date night that feels special from start to finish.

Rosewater Kitchen & Bar is heard to beat for Mediterranean romance. We’re especially drawn to the patio, which feels transportive—perfect for travel lovers dreaming of Europe. The branzino is sensational and paired with a warm evening and a glass of wine, it’s an effortlessly romantic experience.

Still on our personal must-dine list, the RH Rooftop Restaurant oozes romance. The glass-encased space features a skylit garden filled with heritage olive trees, sparkling chandeliers, and a cascading fountain at its center. It feels grand, intimate, and cinematic—ideal for a special-occasion date.

CO isn’t your classic intimate date-night restaurant—but it is perfect for couples who bond over food and culture. The menu fuses modern and traditional Asian flavors, from Malaysian chili wings and Vietnamese summer rolls to Thai drunken noodles, sushi, and a deeply flavorful curry laksa we still dream about. Casual, lively, and ideal for adventurous eaters.

Vivace serves up authentic Italian cuisine with thoughtful twists—handmade pasta, an extensive wine list, and charming mini desserts to finish the meal on a sweet note. The rustic-upscale setting feels warm and romantic, with indoor dining and a lovely patio during the warmer months.

Cucciolo Terrazza offers a more refined, pasta-forward Italian experience with a seasonal menu built around what’s fresh and in season. The wild boar agnolotti is a standout favorite, and we’ll always say yes to the braised octopus and tiramisu. Elegant without being stuffy—ideal for a lingering dinner date.

6. Attend Midtown Beach Music Series (April – June)

To be honest, this was our first time experiencing the Midtown Beach Music Series and we didn’t know what to expect, but it totally delivered on all fronts, and we had a fantastic night of singing and dancing with a few adult beverages. 

Located in Midtown Park, the Beach Music Series runs from April 10 – June 26 and consists of live music, food trucks, drinks, and has a diverse crowd – we couldn’t believe how many “younger” folks were up the front of the stage grooving to the tunes – great to see. Grab some friends or family members if you want to, or keep it as just the two of you, and have a fun Thursday night out.

7. Coffee Date Ideas in North Hills

Sometimes the best dates are simple: good coffee, an easy conversation, and no pressure to linger longer than you want. Start your morning at Jubala Coffee, one of our favorite coffee shops in Raleigh, overlooking Midtown Park. Their specialty coffee and expertly trained baristas deliver consistently great lattes, along with a full coffee bar and tea selection.

They also serve excellent comfort food—fluffy biscuits with a variety of spreads and fillings (our favorite is bacon, egg, and pimento cheese), plus waffles that are always a hit. We love settling in here for coffee and conversation before wandering across Six Forks Road to the Midtown Farmers Market.

If you’re looking for a quieter, more intimate coffee date, Tifa Chocolate & Gelato is a wonderful alternative, also i the Park District. While known for its high-quality gelato and Belgian chocolates, they also serve a solid cup of coffee. Head upstairs to the beautiful loft space—it’s calm, cozy, and ideal for lingering conversations. Bonus: coffee and dessert in one stop.

Good Graces is a simple, elegant all-day spot that also makes for a lovely coffee date—especially at the bar. Craig and I did this just yesterday. The coffee is beautifully crafted, and the space feels warm, inviting, and quietly refined, leaning into a softer, more feminine aesthetic that encourages lingering conversation. Adn, well, espresso martinis can also count as a coffee date, I am sure!

8. Shop Midtown Farmers’ Market

Ok, going shopping for vegetables may not sound like a fun date activity, but the farmer’s market in Midtown is not your ordinary shopping experience. Each Saturday morning from mid-April to early November, the vibrant farmers market in the Commons area of North Hills continues to be a community favorite. 

Here you’ll find local farmers, crafters, and creators from around the region selling a variety of locally grown produce and goods. Plus there’s live music and food trucks and vendors to buy a coffee and treat from.

We decided a great date idea would be to shop for local produce here to cook up in the comfort of our home.

9. Cook at home (with produce from farmer’s market)

You don’t have to eat out to have a nice dinner date-night, and from our supplies we purchased at Midtown Farmers’ Market we cooked a lovely dinner at home, and if you have you kids you don’t have to worry about organizing babysitters. We sat on our back deck which is lovely this time of year during Spring, put some music on, decorated with our flowers from Stager’s Fresh Cut Garden Roses and our candle from Ever Glow Candle Co.

We enjoyed our meal of Wagyu beef from Wilders, asparagus from Rob’s Fresh Produce, mushrooms from Shrooms 2 Grow, and our dessert of Gluten Free Banana Chocolate Bundt from Irish Bakers. And this was finished off over a bottle of red wine, LVE Cabernet Sauvignon that we also purchased from North Hills at Total Wine. We wrapped our meal with a fun after dinner game, “We’re Not Really Strangers” that we purchased in North Hills from Paper Source. How well do you know your partner? 

10. Go bowling at Kings Dining & Entertainment

We don’t bowl often (it’s not a big thing in Australia like it is in the US), but we always have a laugh when we do and it is a fun thing to do as a couple – as long as you don’t take it too seriously!  Which is no problem for us as we both aren’t very good at bowling, but if you are going to bowl Kings is a cool space with a fun atmosphere. There’s a decent selection of food with burgers, wings, fries, sandwiches, pizza, and tacos.

I recommend you reserve a lane in advance (18 lanes in total). But if you do have to wait for a lane, there’s also a gaming area with arcade games, video games, pool (billiards), ping pong tables, foosball, dart boards and full bar.

11. Leisurely Brunches & Lingering Lunches

Brunch dates are made for slowing down—and North Hills has some of Raleigh’s best spots for stretching a meal into an experience. Foxcroft Food & Wine Co. continues to be one of our favorite places for long, unrushed meals. Their newer brunch menu is a standout—especially the smoked salmon board: fresh, salty, bright, and easily one of my favorite dishes of the year (and it can be made gluten-free). Pair it with their authentic Aperol Spritz—shockingly hard to find done right in Raleigh—and you’re off to a great start.

On warmer days, settling into their patio with a wine flight, fresh salad, or charcuterie board makes for one of our favorite spring or summer lingering lunches.

STIR is a consistently popular date spot thanks to its open-air design, buzzing energy, and diverse crowd. Known for premium oysters and craft cocktails, the menu features Southern-inspired dishes made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Start with one of their creative craft mimosas—house-made syrups and bitters create flavors like strawberry basil or honey peach. Brunch favorites include oysters, deviled eggs, filet benedict, the Baja omelet, and strawberry Nutella waffles.

Rosewater Kitchen & Bar‘s brunch feels like a European escape, with a strong focus on local sourcing—from gardeners and farmers to fishermen and foragers. Begin with a mimosa or Bloody Mary, then dive into dishes like steak & eggs, crab cakes, or the fine herb omelet. Between the garden room and the beautiful patio, it’s one of the best spots in North Hills to enjoy a spring day over a relaxed brunch date. If Paris isn’t on the calendar, Coquette Brasserie is the next best thing. This classic French brasserie features tiled floors, dark wood accents, marble tabletops, and a striking zinc bar. With authentic French cuisine, an all-French wine list, classic cocktails, and Belgian beers on draft, it’s a romantic go-to for any occasion.

Start with the French onion soup or a charcuterie board (perfect for sharing), then order the seafood crêpe—it’s a favorite. Other staples include eggs benedict, omelets, quiches, pancakes, and French toast. And don’t skip the espresso martini—my favorite in Raleigh, thanks to its creamy blend of Baileys and Frangelico. For a more casual, energetic lunch date, Bartaco is one of our go-to favorites—we were just there yesterday. We love their almost entirely gluten-free menu, which makes ordering easy and stress-free, and their freshly squeezed margaritas are some of the best in Raleigh. I’m also obsessed with their plantains, guacamole, and pork belly with crispy rice bowl! On a warm day, the patio is the place to be, giving this spot an effortless, fun date vibe. Bonus: the bar stays open late if your lunch date turns into evening drinks.

Good Graces is a calm, welcoming spot that works beautifully for an easy, lingering lunch date. While we haven’t tried their brunch yet (it’s high on our list), we’ve heard great things—and we’re especially looking forward to their upcoming lineup of coffee-based cocktails. Lunch here is peaceful and unhurried, with light fare, charcuterie boards, and thoughtfully chosen wines. Making our Raleigh best of lists are their chicken salad in Raleigh and fries in Raleigh! It’s the kind of place where everyone feels at home—couples on dates, friends catching up after yoga, or anyone looking for a relaxed space to gather and connect. 12. A night at the movies

You can never go wrong with a night at the movie theater, it’s one of our favorite date night activities because there’s always something on. The Regal Theatre in North Hills has the biggest blockbuster movies and state of the art facilities.

13. Bike ride the Crabtree Creek Trail

If you love the great outdoors like us, one of the best ways to bond as a couple is to go on a bike ride together. We’re lucky to have to many greenway trails in Raleigh, and in North Hills, you can easily connect to the Crabtree Creek Trail from Midtown Park and cycle along the water’s edge. Bike riding has become one of the most fun activities we’ve been doing together as a couple lately. We enjoyed biking the American Tobacco Trail as well, which stops off at a winery – read about that here. You don’t have to bike the whole route, it’s an out and back trail so just go as far as you like.

14. Do a cooking class together with Sur La Table

Since we’re gluten-free eaters, dining out isn’t always the easiest option for us (though Raleigh is pretty good!), so cooking together has been a great way to bond.
