When our daughter Savannah needed orthodontic treatment, we knew we had some unique challenges ahead. She had missing adult teeth, baby teeth still holding on longer than average, and even one tooth growing inward in the roof of her mouth rather than coming straight down. Complex, right?

We needed a team who would look at the whole picture, explain every option, and guide us with care. After more than a year with Gladwell Orthodontics, I can say with full confidence that we found the right place.

Our Invisalign and Braces Story

Savannah’s treatment is a combination of braces on the upper teeth—to handle the more complex movements—and Invisalign on the bottom for comfort and aesthetics. It’s been a perfect balance for her.

One of the biggest milestones was tackling that inward-growing tooth in the roof of her mouth. A specialist dentist first created a small opening in the palate to help the tooth emerge (which, according to Savannah, sounded scarier than it felt!). Once it began to move into position, Gladwell attached a small chain to gently guide it into alignment.

The best part? We didn’t have to wait for that tooth to fully move before starting treatment. Gladwell was able to work around it—and her remaining baby teeth—without delay. Now, over a year in, her teeth are shifting beautifully, and the most exciting news is that she may no longer need the extraction we initially expected. She’s thrilled, and so are we.

Every 4–6 weeks, Savannah returns for adjustments and reassessments. I love that her treatment plan remains flexible, adapting as her teeth progress. Despite having half braces and half Invisalign, both can be managed efficiently in a single appointment.

The Gladwell 4-Step Orthodontic Treatment Plan

Curious how the process works? Gladwell follows a simple four-step system:

1. Initial Consultation and Assessment – An in-depth first visit with X-rays and digital impressions to assess your oral health. Treatment options are discussed and customized to your needs. We received a welcome gift bag with T-Shirt that Savannah was thankful for.
2. Custom Treatment Plan – You’ll explore the differences between braces and Invisalign, including the pros, cons, and expected results. A personalized treatment plan is then created.
3. Ongoing Care and Adjustments – Regular checkups (every 4–6 weeks) ensure steady progress. Invisalign patients receive new aligners; braces patients have regular wire and bracket adjustments.
4. Completion and Retainers – Once treatment is complete, you’ll receive custom retainers (removable or permanent) and clear guidance on how to maintain your new smile.

Exceptional Care Every Visit

We’ve seen different doctors and assistants throughout Savannah’s journey, and every experience has been seamless. Everyone is up to speed, decisions are consistent, and care is exceptional, which makes it so much easier to fit appointments into our busy lives.

Savannah also loves choosing new colors for her braces at each visit (her hot pink and teal combinations are a hit!). Her Invisalign trays are clearly labeled and organized so she always knows exactly where she’s at in her treatment plan.

Gladwell’s offices are bright, modern, and inviting with large windows, comfortable rooms, and TVs above each chair help kids relax. Each treatment room is private (not a shared open bay), and appointments run on time and in a smooth, organized flow. Digital X-rays are used to minimize radiation while providing precise imagery. Their paperless system also means faster check-ins and an environmentally friendly process.

And yes, there’s even a cozy café in the lobby where you can grab a latte, hot chocolate, or Frappuccino made fresh by the front desk team at no cost. But it’s not just a fun perk; it’s also a Charity Café where donations support a different local charity each quarter. Gladwell donates 100% of café proceeds to community causes—helping make a difference one cup at a time.

We visit the North Raleigh office on Strickland Road, which conveniently sits across from Goodberry’s Frozen Custard. Savannah might have talked me into a few “You were so brave!” post-appointment treats there (I admit, I didn’t take much convincing).

I love how there is always the option for a checkup appointment at one of their other locations if that suits better. For now, we stick to North Raleigh, but Downtown Raleigh could also work for us.

Comparing Experiences

Our eldest daughter also went through Invisalign treatment elsewhere a few years ago, and while it was a good experience, Gladwell Orthodontics has been next level both in efficiency and in the level of care.

At Gladwell, I can sit in during Savannah’s appointments (something I couldn’t with our eldest), which gives me peace of mind given her complex case. Despite how intricate her treatment is, the cost was actually comparable—if not slightly more affordable—than our previous experience.

Orthodontic care has come a long way since my own teenage braces’ days (which were filled with pain, awkward smiles, and zero color choices!). Savannah’s experience has been the opposite, efficient, comfortable, and even fun. She views her braces as a fashion accessory, proudly showing off her colorful bands and bright smile.
