You know a local dance company is good if their show is performed at Raleigh’s premier cultural entertainment hub in the middle of Downtown, the Martin Marietta Center for Performing Arts in the AJ Fletcher Opera theater.

During Christmas, the Cary Ballet Company also performs three Nutcracker performances in the AJ Fletcher Opera Theatre as well as seven performances at the Cary Arts Center – their resident ballet home.

But that’s for the holiday season. Right now, we’re done with that wintry chill and are ready for a Spring sissonne!

Every year, Cary Ballet Company dazzles with a much-anticipated Spring Works dance production with new, contemporary and classical performances. This year, the stage will come alive with two iconic ballets that promise to enchant audiences of all ages.

Step into the world of George Balanchine’s “Who Cares?” and experience the sheer elegance and sophistication of his choreography to the jazzy, upbeat music that George Gershwin composed between 1924 and 1931.

His songs from that time were said to “possess a timeless freshness akin to a perfectly crafted martini – dry, invigorating, and endlessly refreshing.”

I’m ready to sit and watch invigorating ballet performances to all-time favorites such as Strike up the Band (1927), Lady Be Good, (1924), Embraceable You (1930), Fascinatin’ Rhythm (1924), Who Cares? (1931), and I Got Rhythm (1930).

George Balanchine’s “Who Cares?” made its dazzling debut on February 5, 1970, at the New York State Theatre, where it ignited the stage with the vibrant energy of the New York City Ballet.

From the jazz rhythms of Gershwin to the enchanting melodies of timeless classics, this ballet is a celebration of life, love, and the joy of dance. How lucky we now get to experience that NYC magic here in Raleigh.

These aren’t performances any youth dance company can put on; you must be approved by the George Balanchine Trust to learn and perform Who Cares?

Another indicator that the Cary Ballet Company is a prestigious organization is that this iconic ballet will be staged by répétiteurs Jenifer Ringer and James Fayette, both former principals of the New York City Ballet.

The magic doesn’t end there. Following Who Cares? is …
