Swing into Drive Shack Raleigh: the Ultimate Golf Spot for All Ages

If you’re looking for something to do in Raleigh that will keep the whole family entertained, rain or shine, then it’s time to tee off at Drive Shack.

Drive Shack is a high-tech, high-energy entertainment venue where you can practice your golf swing in climate-controlled bays, enjoy battling your mates in the classic arcade game lounge, or have a go at mini golf.

Drive Shack Raleigh is not your grandfather’s country club – it’s where cutting-edge driving range tech meets upbeat social vibes, craft cocktails, and competitive games that even non-golfers will love.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or can’t tell a sand wedge from a sandwich, Drive Shack invites everyone in to join the fun.

We’ve visited twice now and both times had a blast. Don’t worry, no golf experience is necessary, and you can make it as competitive as you like. For us, it’s more about having a hit, a drink, and a laugh.

About Drive Shack Raleigh

Golf course drive shack field

The Raleigh Drive Shack opened its 65,000-square-foot facility in Raleigh in August 2019, and despite the craziness of 2020, it quickly became one of the most popular Raleigh attractions.

It’s only a 12-minute drive from downtown Raleigh, and 15 minutes from the airport.

There are three other Drive Shacks around the country; Orlando, West Palm Beach, and Richmond.

If you’ve never heard of Drive Shack, it’s basically a three-story interactive golf driving range.

The 260-yard-long driving range combines physical targets to aim for with augmented reality range games and virtual games.

They utilize radar-based TrackMan technology, pinpointing the flight of your golf ball and allowing you to virtually play real-world championship golf courses or go head-to-head against friends to collect points for hitting physical targets (games are tracked and scored on television screens inside your bay).

Serious golfers can track their progress each time.

Driving Bays

The private driving bays are all-weather climate controlled with fans for the humid Carolina summers, and heaters for the cooler months.

Each bay has lounge areas with seating, and there’s a rooftop bar and signature restaurant on site serving pretty good food, as well as craft beers and craft cocktails.

Of course there’s table service to your bay, you just order from the friendly staff and play your chosen game from the options on the TV screens.

I call it the “new best drinking game ever”. Not too serious, and a fun way to get outside and compete against your friends, or yourself.

We first played last September for my birthday and even though I’m the only one in the whole family remotely interested in golf, we all had fun and went back again.

This game is FUN and perfect for groups of friends, couples, birthday parties, or families like us.

Interactive Driving Range Games

The Interactive Driving Range games make golf more than just hitting a ball and seeing how far it goes.

We started off playing the “ShackJack” game, Drive Shack’s take on Black Jack.

The TV screen flashes up the dealer’s hand, then you have targets to hit that represent a number.

You keep hitting until you get 21, or higher than the dealer, and can choose to stay.

And our kids always enjoy playing Monster Hunt, you earn points by hitting virtual targets (monsters) to save the princess.

For the avid golfers out there, you can also practice, virtually, on celebrated courses around the world and get feedback on their swing with Pro Practice, which tracks ball distance, spin and speed.

VR Driving Range Games

This virtual course play is one of the most unique features of Drive Shack Raleigh and has some of the most state of the art golf technology.

There are two VR golf games you can play, which are suitable for all ages.

On The Edge is a game where you need to rescue Gunther the Goblin from a cliff’s edge through strategic swings, whereas Scrapyard is explosive adventure story where cars are about to enter a fiery furnace.

Puttery Courses

The Puttery Courses are small mini golf courses, which only select locations have.

The venue in Raleigh is one of those venues.

The puttery courses are artfully designed, and you can pair your experience with uniquely crafted cocktails.
