Beaufort is known to be one of the most beautiful and historic Southern towns in the USA.
For that reason, you’ll want to make sure your accommodation is a little more than a standard hotel room 3-miles out of town.
If you want to stay somewhere unique and full of history and charm, then the Beaufort Inn Hotel is the perfect choice.
Although we originally booked for two nights, we enjoyed this property and town so much, and found a good deal through Booking.com, that we decided an extra night!

About Beaufort Inn, South Carolina
Just like the city, the Beaufort Inn is beautiful, historic and charming plus combined with incredible value for any kind of traveler. It’s also a popular venue for weddings, since its historic homes and lush terrace exuberate elegance and class.
It’s located in the heart of historic Beaufort SC, only a block away from the artsy waterfront district on the Beaufort River, and a short walk to all the best restaurants, cafes, and boutique shopping.
It’s also within walking distance of the Old Point neighborhood, which I feel is one of the most beautiful historic neighborhoods in the USA.
And it’s only a short drive to all the other top Beaufort attractions, including Hunting Island State Park (Forest Gump fans don’t miss this place – they filmed the Vietnam War scenes here!).
Beaufort Inn is spread out over a city block and is unique in that it’s a multitude of historic inns, restored cottages and homes, lush gardens, and communal sitting spaces.
There are multiple accommodation options at the historic inn – a total of 48 guest rooms – to suit your style of travel and preference.
Check-in is in the main lobby area, and staff were friendly and welcoming, taking time to explain the property, nearby attractions and walked us to our room at the back of the property. See more things to do on a getaway to Beaufort, SC.
Smith Wallace Mansion, Beaufort Inn
Couples and history buffs will love staying in the historic Smith Wallace Mansion, which is the main pink Victorian Inn.
In the lobby, ceilings are coral-pink with lime-green trim, offset by floral wallpaper and yellow curtains.
Pine-floor guest rooms have period reproductions, striped wallpaper, and comfy chairs, and several have fireplaces and four-poster beds.
It was built in 1897 by William Sidney Smith as a summer retreat for his family.
NOTE: children under 12 cannot stay in the main inn. As it has been restored to maintain the Victorian feel of this inn, it felt a little outdated and stuffy for my kids (they were able to walk through it, as the main lobby is in this mansion.)
Our girls were very happy to stay in the more modern house out the back!
Beaufort Inn Cottages
The other accommodation options on the property include restored cottages and homes and range from standard hotel/inn style rooms to those with living areas and fully equipped kitchens.
Some maintain the look and feel of the Victorian era with their decor, while others are more modern and chic.
Unique Cottages and Rooms
Near the main house are the cute two-room private Port Republic cottages with rocking chairs on the front porch giving you views of Port Republic residential setting.
Craven Courtyard King rooms cater to couples and business travelers with their coastal chic luxury rooms with a dose of Lowcountry charm.
The Caretaker’s Cottage is a private house with fully equipped kitchen, dining room and living space and a front and back porch.
This is a great option for those on an extended vacation – maybe us next time!
Perfect for a family or couples traveling together, the Fisher House Suites offer one king and one queen bedroom and one full bathroom to share.
The suites are connected by a large gathering room, game table and mini-fridge.
Palmetto Courtyard Queen Room
We had a two-queen bedroom in one of the Palmetto Courtyard Queen Rooms.
It was beautiful on the outside and we had our own rocking chairs on the porch and sitting area out front with views of the quiet and charming Craven Street – Voted Most Charming Street in the South by Southern Living Magazine!
The rooms were a standard hotel room but beautifully decorated and wonderfully comfortable, with a great bathroom and shower.

Manicured Grounds
The manicured grounds feature trickling fountains, verandas, and brick paths with wrought iron benches connect all of the inn’s buildings.
There are several larger grassed areas on the block, which suited my morning HIIT workout perfectly!
You’ll find private courtyards and the beautiful Garden Courtyard surrounded by pecan trees and moss-draped oaks as you step outside the back of the main inn.
Some of the inn rooms come with a patio or balconies to enjoy the beauty of Beaufort from.
They also offer s’mores packets to enjoy around the fire pits.
Bang’s Salon and Spa
Bang’s Salon and Spa is an Aveda concept salon providing a wide variety of luxury beauty services, all within steps of your room at The Beaufort Inn.

Beaufort Inn SC is one of our favorite accommodation stays on the East Coast so far. We were impressed by the value of this Beaufort accommodation.

Are pets allowed at the Beaufort Inn?
Some rooms are pet-friendly at the Beaufort Inn. Dogs are not allowed in the main house, but some rooms in the modern cottages allow pets for an additional fee. It’s best to check with the property when making a reservation.
Who owns the Beaufort Hotel?
The Beaufort Hotel is owned by local owners, Bucky and Wendy Oliver.
Does Beaufort Inn have a restaurant?
Beaufort Inn doesn’t have a restaurant but it does offer discounts and vouchers for nearby cafes, Blackstone Cafe and Rain -N- Bagels.
The Verdict: Would We Recommend The Beaufort Inn?
We visited Beaufort on a road trip between Raleigh and North Florida.
It was a wonderful halfway stopover and would also make for a wonderful addition to an East Coast road trip.
If you’re looking for places to stay in Beaufort SC when you visit South Carolina, we would absolutely recommend it and we would stay here again ourselves.
The combination of comfort, warmth of the friendly staff, an interior that’s an impeccable blend of modern amenities and traditional flare, and excellent location close to historic downtown Beaufort, makes it a fantastic place to stay on the Carolina coastline.
