Designed for Joy’s Evening of Giving in Raleigh, 2023 (It’s Joy Time)

Here’s an annual Raleigh event designed to make your heart swell with happiness. It’s put on by one of our favorite local non-profit organizations, Designed for Joy

I love this company so much that I volunteer on their marketing committee. I love to, not only, offer some (hopefully helpful) marketing advice (mostly blog and social media), but share the good work they do through our channels.

Last year, while Craig was drinking all the Guinness on his Ireland trip, I headed out to Designed for Joy’s Evening of Giving event.

I loved the opportunity to get a little dressed up, meet lots of wonderful people in the community, buy a gorgeous leopard print clutch purse, see people battle it out at the auctions, and of course, just support a wonderful cause.

This is the most important fundraising event for Designed for Joy and it’s back on September 14, 2023 at Cam Raleigh

Both Craig and I will be attending this year – on the eve of his 50th birthday – and would love to see you also attend (please come and say hi!)

Designed for Joy’s Evening of Giving is a night to remember, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a strong sense of community. It’s not just your typical charity event – it’s an experience that leaves you feeling inspired and connected.

We also interview Cary Heise on our podcast. You’ll find it at the bottom of the post.

Making a Difference, One Living Wage at a Time

But let’s delve into the stylish details. What’s this evening raising money for?

Designed for Joy is all about empowering and employing women who are looking to rebuild their lives. Their studio downtown provides women in crisis with stability through immediate employment and support, removing the stigma of vulnerability.

They provide living wage work for women emerging with trafficking, homelessness, time in prison and other vulnerable situations. They’re given the opportunity to learn new artisan skills creating impressive home décor and lifestyle products.

The funds raised during the Evening of Giving directly support these women, providing them with stable employment and a chance to regain their footing.

It’s not just about writing a living wage check; it’s about giving them the tools they need to create a brighter future.

This year, DFJ is celebrating 6 years of serving over 100 women with over $400,000 in living wages earned.

Let’s come together to help them raise $125,000 through their Evening of Giving.

Now, let’s talk about the main event – the Evening of Giving itself! This isn’t your typical fundraising gala where you’re standing around in formal wear, trying to remember everyone’s name, and wondering at one time would it be considered not rude to leave.

This is an event designed for you to have a blast while making a difference. Expect lots of laughter, inspiring stories, stylish products, and beautiful surroundings.

This year, the fundraising event will be held at CAM Museum, one of our favorite modern art galleries in Downtown Raleigh. CAM’s featured artist for the event is Beverly McIver, a contemporary artist, mostly known for her self-portraits.

Stalls will be set up with Design for Joy’s signature items from luggage tags to leather purses., so bring along your wallet for some fun purchases (great Christmas gift ideas!)

Time to shop!

There will be a silent auction featuring some seriously cool items, so you can snag something awesome for yourself while supporting a fantastic cause. Last year they had items such as paintings, vacations, and handbags.

A special item will be original DFJ leather bags hand painted by some local Raleigh artists.

One of the most inspiring parts of the evening is listening to success stories from some of the artisans and the direct impact that Designed for Joy has had on transforming their lives. You can even sew together with one of their expert sewists to create a signature product.

Dance to the beat of joy!

All of this while dancing to the beat of the band, Bounce; and indulging in the heavy hors d’oeuvre and drinks. These are included with the ticket price (thanks to sponsors) and can help keep your energy high as you mix, mingle, and make memories.

You can watch a quick reel from last year below.

Apart from attending the event and helping to raise funds through tickets, and product purchase, you can also sponsor the evening of Giving event.

Designed for Joy has several levels of corporate sponsorship available from social sponsors to auction sponsors and venue sponsors. Each level involves different benefits such as promotion, event recognition and tickets to the event.

This is a great opportunity for a local Raleigh brand or corporation to support a great cause and have the community learn more about you at the same time. Please email me if you’d like an introduction to discuss this with the Designed for Joy team. ([email protected]) Or you can click to learn more here.

You can also donate products and services for the silent auction.

Final Thoughts: It’s Designed for Joy

Great MC for the night!

We know life gets busy, and your calendar fills up faster than you can say “Raleigh.” But trust us, Designed for Joy’s Evening of Giving is something you won’t want to miss.

It’s a chance to support local women who are working hard to rebuild their lives and have a great time while doing it in a fantastic venue with warm and friendly people.

I was surprised by how many groups of women (and men were there too) came together as friends to enjoy this fun event.

Not only that, but they also spoke so positively about the non-profit organization and about other ways in which they supported the local Raleigh community.

It was lovely to be surrounded by people with a genuine love for raising others up. It was one of those moments where I felt honored and joyful to have my permanent home in Raleigh.

And if you’re a newcomer, or coming on your own, don’t worry. I was both last year and was welcomed with open arms.

Craig and I will be there this year and happy to chat with you, so you don’t feel alone.

You will leave with a heart full of joy, knowing that you’ve contributed to something truly meaningful.

It is Designed for Joy after all!!
